Frequently Asked Questions

An option is a contract that gives the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy (in the case of a call) or sell (in the case of a put) an underlying asset at a specified price on or before a specified date. Or, put differently, options are contracts that give the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell a quantity of an underlying asset at a predetermined price on or before the expiration of the contract.

Any company or individual who wants to reduce market risk, earn a premium return, or plan strategically for a given maturity can trade options.

With options, you are actually buying and selling rights. Therefore, to buy an option is to buy the right to buy/sell an underlying asset at a certain price and amount at a certain maturity or until maturity. Likewise, the seller of an option is selling the right to buy/sell.

There is no obligation for the option buyer. Depending on the option type, he/she has the right to exercise the option at the expiry date or at the price determined within the expiry date, but this is not an obligation. For the option seller, an obligation arises when the option is exercised by the buyer.

The right to buy is called a Call option and the right to sell is called a Put option.

Any underlying asset with a financial value or economic indicator can be subject to option transactions. Destek Bank can provide pricing for option transactions on foreign currency.
